What Happened to The Didact AFTER Halo 4 (and How He Might Return)

The Didact did not die at the end of Halo 4.

The Didact did not die during the events of Halo: Escalation.

Contrary to the impression many have, he is, in fact, still out there… somewhere. Where is he? What’s become of him? When might we see him next, and how might he return?

Why the Didact CAN be Composed and WON’T be in Halo Infinite

We last saw the Didact in the The Next 72 Hours arc of Halo: Escalation, which, puzzlingly, concluded with him being Composed – despite stating in one of Halo 4’s Terminals that it would not work on him.

With his future uncertain, I thought it’d be interesting to reconcile this apparent contradiction and find a satisfying answer to why the Didact can be Composed, and why his probable absence in Infinite might be a good thing for fans of the character.

Halo: Battle Born – On Lost Childhood and the Value of YA Literature

This is not a bedtime story, some frightening fairy tale to entertain or scare young children; this is as real to you as the feeling of a book in your hand, a hot dinner to eat, an AI to hack, a concert to visit, a tree to climb, homework to be bored with.

This is what happens on the day the Covenant drops out of the sky to tear down your world.

In the many tellings of this story, never has it been told quite like this before.

The Five Untold Stories of Halo 5 – In Loving Memory of Squad Leader Bibjam

Here we are, at the fifth and final story of this little project. This has been a really fun exercise in mixing various critiques I’ve made of Halo 5 over the last three years with more creative expression, writing scenes I’d have loved to see and expanding on some of the ideas found throughout the campaign and […]

Halo 5: Reimagining the Warden Eternal

“My reach exceeds that of the stars themselves. You cannot escape my grasp.” The Warden Eternal is Halo’s worst character. I found this article sitting pretty in my drafts for about two years with only that opening line, waiting to be expanded on and justified like the other ‘reimagining’ articles I’ve done – the last […]

Mantle’s End – What the Forerunners did AFTER Halo (and where they are now…)

“And those who made the rings? What happened to the Forerunners?” One hundred thousand years ago, a great and terrible civilisation achieved technological dominance. They appointed themselves as the galaxy’s rulers, imposing a chastening peace over their protectorates for countless millennia. This they did in the name of the Mantle. Their duty: to preserve diversity […]

“You ARE Forerunner” – A Complete History of Human-Forerunner Origins

“You are the child of my makers, inheritor of all they left behind. You are Forerunner… but this ring is mine.” It’s been over ten years now since Halo 3 released and we ‘finished the fight’ (er… sort of?), bringing with it this ‘reveal’ from 343 Guilty Spark at the end. The statement is comprised of three […]

On Halo 4 and the ‘Chosen One’ trope

One of the more divisive aspects of Halo 4’s story was a particular line spoken by the Librarian to John that has seen no end of discussion over the years.

“You are the culmination of a thousand lifetimes of planning.”

While Halo 4 does indeed deal with notions of ‘destiny’ and the trope of the Chosen One, it’s not handled in the way many seem to think it is…
